Believe it or not...
Before the attack on Pearl Harbor, America had decided against joining the war. Germany was very powerful and England was all alone but still America did not jump at the opportunity to help. Many American soldiers died during World War I and America did not want to deal with the repercussions of another war. However the president during that time, Franklin D. Roosevelt, knew that the United States needed to join the war. America however had no reason to join the war until the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred. Many people argue that President Roosevelt knew that the attack on Pearl Harbor was coming and that Roosevelt did not try to prevent the situation because America
just needed a push to join the war.
Many pieces of evidence have been found to try and prove this conspiracy. During the summer of 1940, America’s decoding machine, MAGIC, decoded a top secret message from Japan. Roosevelt then informed the Philippines and London about the message but not Pearl Harbor. There were many more messages from Japan that were decoded but no information was ever sent to Pearl Harbor. After the final message was sent by Japan indicating their military activity against the U.S, Admiral Stark refused to warn Pearl Harbor. Admiral Stark finally sent a warning to Pearl Harbor but it was too late, the attack occurred six hours earlier. This could have all been coincidental however after the war Admiral Stark said he did what “higher authority” told him to do. This “higher authority” figure is FDR. The last and most important piece of evidence was written in a diary by the Secretary of War, Stimson. He was pondering the idea of how to find a way for Japan to fire against the America without causing too much damage to us. FDR may have wanted Japan to take the first shot but he was not expecting so many American soldiers’ lives to be lost that day. No one can prove that this conspiracy is true or not but one thing is for sure. Pearl Harbor is a day that will live in infamy.
